This will be the first budget since Andy Burnham became Prime Minister, and national Citizens Advice have worked hard to put together their Turn the tide budget submission and get it in front of the right people.

The submission is a significant piece of work, using the evidence every local Citizens Advice collects every day to suggest a number of bold reforms to the government. These include uprating Local Housing Allowance, reforming Council Tax collection, and increasing funding for Pathways to Work advisers.

They are also asking the government to develop a national advice strategy to coordinate public sector funding for advice services - like we have seen in Wales. While the public sector is funding advice, a national strategy could help make the process more efficient and ensure funding provides the best value for money, making a real difference to people’s lives.
