Citizens Advice 1066 is a dynamic and fast-moving organisation, focused on providing free, confidential and independent advice to help people overcome their problems. We don’t just fix the immediate issues people arrive with, we work with them to address the underlying causes of these problems. We are a voice for people on the issues that matter to them. We value diversity, champion equality and challenge discrimination.
We're seeking to recruit several Energy and Low Carbon Advisers to deliver advice helping people make effective use of energy in their homes and cut their carbon emissions. There will be some flexibility on location, and the post will be based in one of the Citizens Advice offices across East Sussex including Eastbourne, Newhaven, Hailsham, St Leonards-on-Sea, and Bexhill. Hybrid working, with some days worked from home, can be considered.
You'll join a team of highly skilled advisers delivering advice sessions and training to both individuals and groups, engaging them on making effective use of energy in the home and reducing carbon emissions. This will involve using your listening skills to understand their situations, and your knowledge of energy efficiency and renewable energy to help them make decisions and adopt energy-saving behaviours. You’ll also help clients with debt prevention, claiming benefits and money management, referring them on to other specialist teams within Citizens Advice 1066 when needed.
In this role you will:
Develop a deep understanding of household energy issues, including energy efficiency, meters, billing, behaviour change and renewable energy;
Use sensitive listening and questioning skills to get to the root of the issues and empower clients;
Continue learning and gaining experience every day, and complete training courses as required;
Work with a range of different people, independently and in a team;
Make a real difference to people’s quality of life and have a positive impact in your community.
This is an opportunity for someone with previous experience working in an advice role, proven through recent employment or volunteer roles. You will also need to demonstrate your knowledge of energy use, efficiency and renewables, through past experience or during the interview. The required training and support will be given to the successful candidate to enable them to carry out their role. The role will include outreach work and applicants will need to hold a full driving license.
If you want to make a difference to households’ energy use and financial situation, help cut carbon emissions, and you enjoy working in a team in a busy environment, meeting people from diverse backgrounds and helping them resolve their problems, then we’d be pleased to hear from you.
At CA1066, we value diversity, promote equality and challenge discrimination. We encourage and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. We particularly welcome applications from disabled people, people with physical or mental health conditions, LGBT+ and non-binary people, and people from racial minority communities.
