If you’ve ever reached out to Lewes District Citizens Advice for help, chances are the first person you spoke to was a volunteer. They are the lifeline of our service, and we take great pride in their dedication and conscientiousness.
Our volunteers don’t just give their time - they offer reassurance, expertise and empathy to support local people facing a wide range of problems; from housing and employment to legal rights and financial hardship. Whether they have just joined our team or have been with us for decades, each volunteer brings something unique to our service.
The impact they make is felt not just within our team, but by many clients who tell us how much the advice we provide helped them through a difficult time. Below are some inspiring quotes from both our volunteers and clients and top reasons why joining our team is so valuable.
1. Make a Real Difference in Your Community
Volunteers are the lifeline behind our service, providing reassurance, expertise, and empathy to people facing a variety of challenges from housing and employment to legal rights and financial hardship.
“I’m very grateful for the help I received to complete my PIP form.” - Client
2. Connect with Your Community
Volunteering can offer younger people, purpose, community and real world perspective. It’s a reminder that giving time can be both personally fulfilling and socially meaningful.
“While pursuing my university studies, I decided to become a volunteer to help others and truly make a difference in people's lives. A refreshing break from my studies, volunteering has been incredibly rewarding, and the team has been so welcoming and supportive! I wholeheartedly recommend this experience to anyone who wants to feel more connected and is eager to help their community.” - University Student Volunteer
3. Develop Valuable Skills and Experience
Voluntering is not only about giving back, but also personal growth and development. Many volunteers join us and build skills relevant to their careers.
"I became involved with LDCA as a way to accentuate my legal studies at university, develop my skills and build a legal CV. CA has been an incredible opportunity for volunteering because it has allowed me to do all of those things with the rewarding knowledge that I'm giving back to the community and helping to provide an essential service." - Volunteer
4. Lifelong Learning and Growth
Volunteering at LDCA is a journey, the sense of purpose, learning and connection is one that continues to grow over time.
“I started volunteering nearly 20 years ago after retiring and I’m still learning something new every week. It’s great to work in an organisation that helps so many people every day.” — Long-term Volunteer
5. Be Part of a Caring and Supportive Team
Our volunteers don’t just offer advice - they build a network of care and support for our clients.
“Could not have a better support network. Thank you so much for all you have done for me.” - Client
